Description:

(HENRY FORD) FORD MOTOR COMPANY BLACKFACE PERFORMANCE
Bizarre photograph, 15 1/4" x 8" (sight), a group photograph captioned on the mount: "Ford Family Minstrels Sales Department Banquet Pontchartrain Hotel. February 3, 1916". The 40 outrageously-costumed men shown in the photograph are all Caucasian, but in almost every case are in "blackface" paint. They were undoubtedly employees of the man shown at center, Henry Ford himself, not exactly known himself for his tolerant views (he published the notorious "Protocols of Zion in his newspaper, the Dearborn Independent). This photograph was almost certainly taken at the Pontchartrain Hotel in Detroit. In period frame, very good.
