(1831-1899) Confederate brigadier general of cavalry in the Western Theater of the war. Served with distinction in the Atlanta and Carolina campaigns. A.L.S. on California State Department letterhead, 1p. 4to., Sacramento, July 3, 1888, to Gen. Marcus J. Wright (1831-1922), Confederate brigadier general who was appointed by the War Department years after the war to collect Confederate military records. In part: '...I have filled out the blank as I supposed you wish it done...The name of R. B. Ryan that you say the record shows was acting A.D.C. on my staff in 1862...i have no knowledge of whatsoever...I cannot recall the name of anyone named Ryan during the war. Will you please inform me how I can get hold of these reprints after they are compiled? I would like very much indeed to have them for my children...Gen. George B. Cosby is recording clerk in the office here...I have urged upon him to comply with your request...as I have done....' Accompanied by a hand addressed envelope. George B. Cosby (1830-1909) was a Confederate brigadier general who served as an aide to Simon B. Buckner, and in this capacity delivered to him Ulysses S. Grant's demand for unconditional surrender at Fort Donelson. He was captured after the battle and served with the Army of the Tennessee after his exchange. Fine condition.

Shipments are sent via FedEx and DHL (for most overseas shipments) or FedEx Ground at the auctioneer's option. Due to complications from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we will ship with USPS Priority Mail only if the buyer submits their request to us in writing and accepts responsibility for delayed shipments. Signature is always required, unless other arrangements are made. Handling and shipping charges will be added to the invoice in one entry. Buyers should be aware that large, framed, fragile or odd shaped items can incur substantial shipping and packing charges. International shipments are invoiced by DIMENSIONAL weight, not the item weight.
