Description:

(1900 - 1945) Hitler's Chief of the Gestapo placed in charge of security and responsible for the construction and operation of extermination camps. He chose suicide rather than face a hangman's noose at Nuremberg. HIMMLER CONSOLIDATES HIS POWER IN LEAGUE WITH OSWALD POHL Important war-date D.S., 1p. 4to., 'Headquarters at the front', Sept. 24, 1942, issued to high-ranking officials in the SS regarding Himmler's further consolidation of the SS and police, specifically in the east. In full: 'The SS and police chiefs in the eastern areas have their own administration for the SS and police respectively. I entrust SS group chief [Oswald] Pohl with the task of calling a conference to achieve a simplification by consolidating these administrative parts of the SS and Police chiefs. I expect the above-named men to see the matter as a whole and not simply the duties of the various headquarters.' File holes at the left margin, minor edgewear else fine. Oswald Pohl (1892-1951) was head of SS Economic and Administrative Office, a key figure of the Final Solution, and head administrator of concentration camps. He was executed for crimes against humanity at the Nuremberg Trials after multiple appeals. This move by Himmler illustrates Pohl's already extensive influence, and Himmler's obvious streamlining of the Nazi ‘liquidation' processes.
