Description:

HEINRICH HIMMLER SS HONOR DAGGER
Rare and most desirable Heinrich Himmler SS Honor Dagger with scabbard, the blade is 8.5 in. with the dagger and sheath being 13.5 in. overall. The SS Himmler presentation dagger was awarded to SS officers and men who participated in the overthrow of Ernst Rohm and the powerful Sturmabteilung brown shirts in the historic ‘Night of the Long Knives' which resulted in Rohm's execution. Other recipients included generals chosen to be so honored by Himmler. Estimates of the total number of such daggers produced run to approximately 2,500 according to expert Thomas Wittmann. The dagger features all matching early nickel-silver fittings for the upper and lower crossguards and scabbard mounts. The underside of the lower crossguard is correctly stamped with the benchmark number ‘2', as such daggers should display numbers ranging from ‘0' to ‘9'. The black ebony grip displays a few light scratches but the runes button is undamaged, and the inlaid nickel-silver eagle are perfectly fitted and original to the grip. Notable oxidation where the blade meets the crossguard. The blade itself is in near mint condition with minimal running lines, and exhibits beautiful cross graining. The obverse presents the SS motto ‘Meine Ehre Heisst Treue' and the reverse of the blade shows the small early oval Carl Eickhorn squirrel with the non-serrated tail. The Himmler presentation on the reverse reads: ‘In Herzicher Kameradschaft H. Himmler' (‘In Heartfelt Comradeship H. Himmler'). The black anodized scabbard bears some wear marks throughout, but remains dent free and as issued. Overall, quite a nice example.
