Description:

HEER OFFICER'S DAGGER BY CARL EICKHORN, WITH PORTAPEE
Third Reich Heer officer's dagger, 10 in. blade, 14.5 in. overall, with an orange celluloid grip secured to the tang by a circular steel pommel encircled with an oak leaf motif. The crossguard depicts a national eagle with spread wings, with scrollwork at the ends of the quillions, and an oak leaf pattern on the ferrule: all detail here is crisp and in good condition, with minor tarnish overall and some minute bubbling to the finish on the reverse of the crossguard. The crossguard and grip are wrapped with a silver wire portapee, showing some fraying where wrapped and some additional losses to the finish. There is some play to the grip ferrule and crossguard between the blade and the pommel. The nickel-finish blade bears the etched maker's mark of the firm Carl Eickhorn of Solingen on the reverse ricasso. The blade shows draw marks along the length and a few spots of oxidation and scratches, but is otherwise undamaged. The dagger is housed in a pebbled steel scabbard with two suspension loops secured by oak leaf-patterned bands, showing tarnish and a bit of rust to one loop, but remaining straight and with no visible dents. In very good condition overall.
