Description:

HARRY S. TRUMAN SPEECH BROADCAST RECORD
Original aluminum 33 RPM broadcast record, 16" dia., bearing a label stating that it was recorded by radio station KMO in Tacoma, Washington. It is further labeled: "Pres. Truman at Olympia - 6/20/45". Not played by us, but the record is believed to contain a recording of Truman's speech of June 19, in which he calls upon congress to reexamine the question of presidential and vice-presidential succession, which had been called into question by the death of President Franklin D. Roosevelt in April of 1945. Prior to this, vice-presidential successors had been chosen from the ranks of the cabinet, a trend that Truman decries as undemocratic. Included with the record is a carton for ten blank aluminum base recording discs, to which is affixed an original shipping label attesting that the record was shipped from KMO in Tacoma to Truman's press and radio advisor, Leonard Reiansch, at Olympia on June 20. Also present are three additional aluminum broadcast records, each 12" dia., two of which bear the labels of recording studios in New York, but whose contents are unknown to us. Two of the smaller records bear bubbling and cracking in the shellac coating the aluminum, else very good overall.
