GIULIA GRISI
(1811-1869) Italian opera star, a leading soprano of the century whose illustrious career spanned 30 years. Fine content A.L.S. 1p. 8vo., [n.p., n.d.], in French to the Countess de Merlin, owner of one of the most famous Parisian literary salons of the time. In part: "...I will do everything in my power to engage [opera star, Antonio] Tamburini and [opera star Giovanni] Rubini...", followed by arranging a meeting. The Countess de Merlin (1789-1852) was a Spanish aristocrat and gifted singer who also enjoyed success as an author for her memoirs. Her apartment gatherings were frequented by many artistic luminaries of the time, including Honore de Balzac, George Sand, Richard Strauss, Gioachino Rossini and many others. With integral address leaf, boldly penned, seal tear at opening, very good condition.
