Description:

GERMAN SS OFFICER'S LION HEAD SWORD
Early SS officer's sword by WKC, 34 in. blade and 39.5 in. overall, with an appealing silvered finish to the hilt and cross guard. The hilt depicts a lion's head displaying exquisite detail to the whiskers, muzzle, and chin. The bright red glass eyes are firmly in place. On the ‘P' guard and backstrap is the commonly seen oak leaf pattern. The plate of the cross guard correctly depicts a German national eagle on one side and SS runes on the other. The grip is of wooden construction covered in black celluloid and is fully intact, though one small section of the wire wrapping is loose. The blade is clean and bright, with evidence of a very slightly bent tip. Clearly stamped on the ricasso with the ‘Knight's Helmet' trademark of Weyersberg Kirschbaum & Cie Waffenfabrik of Solingen. Housed within a black painted steel scabbard with a single suspension loop. The scabbard bears approx. 95% of its original paint and shows no dings, dents, etc. Near mint condition.
