Description:

GERMAN SOLDIER'S BALKANS CAMPAIGN PHOTO ALBUM
Small photo album, 32pp. 8vo., containing 52 3.25 x 2.5 in. b/w snapshots taken by a German soldier, most likely during his service in the Balkans Campaign of 1940-1941. The album opens with several scenes from Sofia, the capital of Germany's ally Bulgaria, most notably showing the Banya Bashi mosque in the city's center. The following photos presumably show the Bulgarian countryside, with many views of peasants and small villages, as well as German encampments. The scenes then shift to show several views of German columns marching through the Serbian capital of Belgrade, showing heavy damage caused by Luftwaffe air raids leading up to the invasion of Yugoslavia. Several photos show the destroyed bridges over the Danube and the pontoon bridges erected to replace them. The final images show hordes of German soldiers departing on a train, and scenes from leave in Germany. Untranslated annotations are present throughout. One photo has been removed, and the pages show some toning, else very good.
