Description:

GEORGE II
(1683 - 1760) King of England (1727 - 1760) and military leader whose forces were successful in India, Canada and at sea. Fine content manuscript D.S. "George R", 1p. tall folio, St. James's, Jan 17, 1742, in which George places Hanoverian troops on the British payroll. In part: "...Our Will and Pleasure is, that this Establishment of the Electoral Troops of Hanover in the Pay of Great Britain...do Commence to take Place from the 31st of August and remain in Force to the 25th day of December...being one hundred seventeen days...". This highly-unpopular order was issued by the king in the wake of the onset of war between Spain and England in 1839. George was a Hanoverian Prince, and it was widely seen that he was more interested in protecting his home country than fulfilling the wishes of his subjects. Folds, a couple of splits at margins, very good.
