Description:

GEORGE BAKER
(1915-1975) American cartoonist, creator of the popular strip among American G.I.s, Sad Sack. A fine and large original drawing of his longtime companion, Suzanne La France, a nude accomplished in ink and colored marker on a 8 1/2 " x 15" piece of cardstock. A very unusual example of Baker's work. Accompanied by an A.L.S. "B.B." 1p. 4to., [Los Angeles, n.d., c. 1970?] to La France that reads in part: "...Played tennis with Sam Goldwyn in the afternoon. It was warm and sunny - no smog....You mentioned that Apartments are hard to find in Paris. Do you have any more information on that? Working in an hotel would almost be impossible what with drawing boards, lights, books papers and other items. Maybe a small house outside Paris would be best - although I should be in Paris for a while to pick up ideas...". We are unsure of the origin of the initials "B.B.", but we presume this was a pet name of some sort. Together two pieces in fine condition.
