GENERALS HENRY J. HUNT, MARSENA R. PATRICK AND SETH WILLIAMS
A fine association group of Union Army of the Potomac generals' signatures with rank on an 8vo. flyleaf disbound from a book, including: MARSENA R. PATRICK (1811-1888), Union Brigadier General who led a brigade of the 3rd Corps and was Provost Marshall of the Army of the Potomac. Signature ‘M. R. Patrick' in black ink, adding his rank ‘Brev. Maj. Genl Army [of the] Potomac; HENRY J. HUNT (1819 - 1889), Union brigadier general who broke the Confederate pursuit at Bull Run, as Chief of Artillery at Fredericksburg his 147 gun battery opened the battle. He is best remembered for commanding the artillery at Gettysburg, helping to repulse Pickett's charge. Signature in black ink, adding his rank ‘Brig Genl Vols' and ‘Chief of Artillery Army of [the] Poto[mac]; and SETH WILLIAMS (1822-1866), Union brigadier general active at Gettysburg, Petersburg and Atlanta and Adjutant General of the Army of the Potomac. Signature ‘S. Williams' in black ink, adding his rank ‘Brig. Genl. & Asst. Adj. Genl. Army of the Potomac'. The recto of the page bears the additional signature of Army of the Potomac brevet brigadier general and post-war U.S. Army Inspector General EDMUND SCHRIVER (1812-1899), while the verso is signed by an E. M. Johnson as assistant surgeon of the 2nd Massachusetts Cavalry, and also bears a much earlier ownership signature, ‘Charles D. Foston Arizona 1854'. The page shows notable soiling, damp stains and foxing overall, still in very good overall condition.
