GEN. FRANZ HALDER'S MAP OF THE COLLAPSE OF KORPSGRUPPE SEIBERT AND THE VORONEZH FRONT
Important Russian campaign map from the personal files of German Gen. FRANZ HALDER (1884–1972), issued by the German Army High Command and depicting the Tret'ye-Vygornoye area of Russia, the German defense there, etc. in early February, 1943.The printed map is titled: 'Skizze 7 ('Sketch 7) , 15.5 x 10.5 in. and was drafted at a scale of 1:250,000, undated showing the situation up to February 7, 1943. The map depicts the terrain between Stary Oskol (bottom right) and the line Pogozheye – Bystrets – Repyevka (upper center/right), with villages including Kamyenki, Pyatnitskaya, Zasosorye, Yastrebovka, Mikhaylovka, Troitskoye etc. Central Korpsgruppe Siebert (an improvised German corps) is shown with attached mobile groups Gruppe Lenz, Gruppe Latz, Gruppe Krüger, Gruppe Aldrian, and their routes and contacts. Labels '1 Sch. Div.' and '2 Sch. Div.' denote sectors held by Hungarian 'Fast' divisions and other allied remnants shielding the flanks and rear. Heavy black arcs mark Soviet attacks; hatched boxes show road/rail nodes being contested. This crisis map shows Soviet forces maneuvering around Korpsgruppe Siebert as it attempts to delay Soviet advances and cover withdrawals in the Stary Oskol – Repyevka –Bystrets sector. The ad-hoc groups shuttle along a few cleared winter roads, counterattacking locally and forming new stop lines while Hungarian fast divisions hold adjacent sectors, as the Voronezh front collapses. This was part of the Soviet Ostrogozhsk–Rossosh and Voronezh–Kastornoye offensives' aftermath (Jan–early Feb 1943). These blows destroyed much of the Hungarian 2nd Army and forced the German 2nd Army into the retreats and rearguard actions mapped here, immediately preceding the period that led to Manstein's later Third Battle of Kharkiv counteroffensive. One vertical fold.
