Description:

GARY COOPER'S "BEAU GESTE" FOREIGN LEGIONNAIRE'S COAT
A great relic from the "golden days" of Hollywood, the dark blue wool overcoat worn by top leading man Gary Cooper in the 1939 epic military drama, "Beau Geste". The full-length coat is quite detailed, with red embroidered Foreign Legion collar tabs and brass "Legion Etrangere" buttons. The half-lining of the coat bears ink stamps from the "Western Costume Company", well-known providers of costumes and outfits for Hollywood filmmakers for many decades. A vintage Western Costume cloth label at the neckline bears the name "G. COOPER", his chest measurement, and the film's title. The coat shows clear signs of carefully-made alterations to accommodate Cooper's frame and height. Two tags are also pinned to the garment, one printed with Western Costume's name, also "G. Cooper Hold Dress Rm.", "Universal" and the film name. A second white tag has generally the same information. adding: "Change coat with insignia for tailor fittings Note: Same as other actor [Ray Milland]". With a still from the film showing Cooper wearing the coat with Milland by his side. A neat relic from a real classic.
