G. GORDON LIDDY
(1930 - 2021) Liddy is best known as the mastermind of Watergate. Under Nixon, he served in the special investigative unit ODESSA, later to become known as the ‘Plumbers.' He became Federal Counsel to the Committee to Re-elect Nixon from which he directed the Watergate break-in. During over four years of imprisonment, including 106 days of solitary confinement, Liddy successfully defied efforts to force him to betray his associates. Printed and folded paper program, 4pp. 8vo., The University of Tennessee at Knoxville, Issues Committee, presents G. Gordon Liddy, ‘the mastermind of Watergate,' Nov. 18, 1981, signed ‘G. Gordon Liddy' in black ink on the front of the program, the second page including a portrait of Liddy. The title of Liddy's speech was ‘Government: The Public's Perception vs. Reality.' The program is extensively folded along all margins and through the middle, heavily toned along each fold and margin, some splitting, the signature has one fold running vertically between the 'G' and 'o' of 'Gordon', otherwise fine.
