FRITZ KUHN AND WALTER DIEBEL
Pair of items signed by two important pro-Nazi leaders of the prewar years. Includes: FRITZ KUHN (1896 - 1951) Controversial leader of the German American Bund, prior to World War II. A naturalized citizen of the United States, he was arrested as an enemy agent and held by the federal government at an internment camp in Crystal City, Texas. His citizenship was canceled on June 1, 1943 and he was deported to Germany. Partly-printed D.S., 2pp. 4 x 4 in., New York, Feb. 14, 1938, Kuhn's N. Y. State driver's license bearing his signature in block letters at top, filled out by him and signed again at bottom where the signature has been slightly affected by dampness. The verso shows three convictions for speeding, and one other violation. SOLD WITH: HANS DIEBEL German-born owner of the Aryan Bookstore located in the same building as the Bund headquarters in downtown Los Angeles. The bookstore contained German books such as Hitler's Mein Kampf, pamphlets, flyers, and other propaganda put out by the Bund for mass circulation, their weekly The Free American, and other anti-Jewish materials. Diebel was closely associated with Hermann Schwinn, who was a leader of the German American Bund on the West Coast. S.P., 5.5 x 4.25 b/w, a Christmas card showing the book store sent to Fritz Kuhn and found in his files. Diebel inscribes the verso: 'From one fighter to another in this great movement. Sincerely Hans Diebel Aryan Book Store Loas Angeles'. Fine condition. Diebel's store would be raided after Pearl Harbor, and he would be deported to Germany. Two pieces.
