FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT'S PERSONAL CHESS SET
A fine Presidential relic, Roosevelt's personal chess set used while sailing aboard the Presidential yacht U.S.S. Potomac. The set consists of a complete set of 16 bakelite yellow and red playing pieces contained within a polished wood box lined with green felt and bearing a silver plate on the inside cover reading: "President F. D. Roosevelt U. S. S. Potomac 1936 to 1940". A few scratches to box, contents very fine. From the personal effects of Captain John Kevers, U.S. Navy, who first served Roosevelt aboard the Potomac" as well as several presidents thereafter. He is said to have been the officer who suggested Camp David as the site for a presidential retreat. Shipment is sent USPS priority, USPS International Express (for most overseas) or UPS Ground at the auctioneer's option, signature required, unless other arrangements are made. Handling, shipping and insurance charges will be added to the invoice in one entry. Buyer's should be aware that large, framed, fragile or odd shaped items can incur substantial shipping and packing charges. Customer's who supply their own courier account number will still be charged a handling fee.
