Description:

(1882 - 1945) Thirty-second President of the United States who instituted the 'New Deal' programs and who led the United States through most of World War II. FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT'S PRESIDENTIAL PAYCHECK Outstanding and excessively rare D.S., 1p. 8.5 x 3.25 in., Washington, July 31, 1933, check number 24,253 in the amount of $5,312.50 issued by the Treasurer of the United States and made payable to 'FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES THE WHITE HOUSE WASHINGTON D C', On the verso, the 32nd President endorses the check: 'For Deposit only Franklin D. Roosevelt' Punch cancel and multiple ink bank stamps on verso, none affecting endorsement, indelible ink note to recto. Fine condition. Only a very small handful of these checks have come to light over the years, perhaps less than five in all. Roosevelt was receiving gross pay of $75,000/year as president. Roosevelt would earn every dollar of his 1938 paychecks - the year would bring the worst of the Depression with unemployment peaking at 25.2%; the failed Munich Pact, ascension of Hitler to power, and the repeal of Prohibition.
