Description:

HENRY FORD (1863-1947) American automobile manufacturer and founder of the Ford Motor Company, his use of the assembly line revolutionized the industry. An excellent (and ironic) signed book, "Stephen Foster America's Troubador", by John Tasker Howard, Thomas Y. Crowell Co., New York, 1934, boldly signed on the front flyleaf. Fine condition, with dust jacket. The dust jacket is certainly worthy of comment, depicting racist themes typical of Foster's music. One sees in the foreground a "happy" slave with straw hat and banjo in hand, at right an elderly slave ("Old Black Joe") resting on his hoe with two bushels of cotton beside him, and a slave cabin in the background. Fine condition. Ford himself made no secret of his racist views. His publication of The International Jew, an anti-Semitic treatise, is well-known.   yes">  yes">  yes">  yes">  yes">  yes">  yes">  yes"> $500-700
