803. DAVID G. FARRAGUT (1801-1870) Union rear admiral instrumental in the taking of New Orleans and the Union control of the Mississippi. It was at Mobile Bay where he exclaimed "Damn the torpedoes! Full speed ahead!" D.S., 1p. oblong 12mo., Washington, Sept. 28, 1866, a check ordering payment to Farragut in the amount of $40.00, endorsed on verso. Signer of the check has struck-through signature aggressively, resulting in ink erosion and a slit in the paper as a result. Farragut's signature is bold, but there is significant showthrough. Overall just good condition. $150-200
