Description:

EVA BRAUN'S EVENING BAG 92-38
EVA BRAUN (1912 - 1945) German mistress and later wife of Nazi fuhrer Adolf Hitler, she later committed suicide with him in the basement of the Chancellery. A rare Braun relic, her silk embroidered evening bag, 9 1/2" x 6", a pale orange floral design with an ornate brass hinge at top. The hinge is decorated with about fifty cabochon and pyramid cut stones, red and emerald in color, set in linear designs. Inside, the purse is lined in silk, labeled "MADE IN FRANCE", and bears her stylized gilt monogram. Lining is slightly frayed, and the colors of the purse have faded a bit, yet still overall very good. The purse was sold to by noted militaria dealers Mohawk Arms in 1990, and is accompanied by their letter of provenance indicating that this item was recovered by an American G.I. from Braun's Munich apartment. The purse is also shown in noted collector Dr. John Lattimer's book, Hitler's Fatal Sickness, in two photographs on p. 64.
