ERICH VON DEM BACH
(1899 - 1972) German SS-Obergruppenführer, his proposal to Hitler resulted in the opening of Auschwitz, a mass-murderer who received command of all anti-partisan actions in Belgium, Belarus, France, the Netherlands, Norway, Ukraine, Yugoslavia, and parts of the Bia?ystok area. In exchange for his testimony against his former superiors at the Nuremberg Trials, von dem Bach never faced trial for any war crimes. Rare, fine association war-date T.L.S. on his General der Polizei letterhead, 1p. 4to., [n.p.], May 18, 1942, in German to Richard Hildebrandt, SS Obergruppenfuhrer and General in the German Police, a Himmler intimate and head of the Race and Resettlement Office from 1943 to the end of the war. Von dem Bach thanks his fellow murderer for his birthday wishes and mentions that he has recuperated from a lengthy illness. He has returned home, and sends Hildebrandt his "well-deserved congratulations. I wish you greatness in your job in the future and success is with you...". Docketed at upper-right, possibly by Hildebrandt, folds and light toning, with file holes at left affecting nothing .
