ERICH LUDENDORFF(1865 - 1937) German general and politician, with Hindenburg in World War I he was responsible for the defeat of Russia, and nearly crushed the Allies on the Western Front. Later, he joined forces with Hitler in the Beer Hall Putsch and became a member of the Reichstag. A pair of items, the first an S.P. 3 1/2" x 2 1/4" b/w, showing Ludendorff with four other generals who are identified at bottom, signed across image. Along with a partly-printed D.S. measuring 6" x 4", Munich, 1933, a certificate of membership in the German Deutschvolk Society. This society was an esoteric science-based religious group created in 1930 by Ludendorff and his wife Mathilde. The recipient is Dolly Petersen, wife of the leading German portraitist of the time, Walther Petersen, remembered for his painted portraits of prominent German politicians such as Hindenburg, Kaiser Wilhelm, and, of course, Hitler.
