EDWARD ELGAR (1857-1934) English composer, the leading composer of his generation. Fine content A.L.S. "Edward Elgar " 4pp. 4to., Hereford, Oct. 7, 1910, to Harold Brooke of Novello, in part: "...Many thanks for your note...I note that I may expect some part of it end of next week - by that time it will of course be impossible to rectify an errors (that may be discovered in playing through the parts) in the full score!! Why, oh! why! was not the full score done first, a month ago? it is too foolish... ". He adds a lengthy postscript: "One or two of the passages in the violin solo I have marked K - they are Mr. [Fritz] Kreisler's bowings, if he is in London you might show him & final proof it with him and ask what he wants on these doubtful points. If you cannot see him print the passages as they stand...". Some of Kreisler's suggestions resulted in the recomposing of single passages in printed proofs. This letter is published in Elgar and His Publishers: Letters of a Creative Life, Vol. II , by Jerrold Northrop Moore, 1987, p. 735. Boldly written, with the original holograph envelope, folds, otherwise very good. $400-600
