Description:

EIGHTEENTH CENTURY ENGRAVING OF BOSTON
Superb hand-colored German "trade" engraving of Boston, ca. 1776-80, 19" x 15", a "View of the Great Plaza Next to the Presbyterian South Church Towards Boston" with French and German captions, printed by Haberman in France and intended for the American market. The image shows civilians, some carrying large bundles, along with cannons being drawn by horses, and armed soldiers. Expertly backed with tissue, some minor edge faults and soiling thereat, else very good. These views proved quite popular, despite the fact that they were drawn showing American structures with Continental architecture!
