Description: EARTHRISE PRESENTATION PHOTO
An early print of one of the most important photographs in history, a 8" x 10" color photograph of the of the Earth rising above the horizon of the moon taken by astronaut WILLIAM T. ANDERS on Dec. 24, 1968. The photograph is housed in a custom presentation folder from a dinner held in honor of the Apollo 8 crew at the Waldorf Astoria on Jan. 10, 1969. This historic image, the first time an "Earthrise" had ever been witnessed by humans is signed by Anders on the presentation cover together with fellow Apollo 8 crewmembers, FRANK BORMAN (who also adds a sentiment at the top right) and JIM LOVELL. Inscribed in another hand: "To Senator Joseph Hartzler and Adam Blinder". Taken during the first orbit around the moon, the scene was first noticed by Frank Borman who remarked: "Oh my God! Look at that picture over there! Here's the Earth coming up. Wow, is that pretty". As Borman went to take a black and white photo, Anders scolded, "Hey, don't take that, it's not scheduled". Borman laughed and asked Anders if he had any color film and Anders responding, "Hand me that roll of color quick, will you...". Though Borman Anders and Lovell all took photographs, Anders was the first to get a color shot of the amazing scene before them. A superb, early photograph printed only two weeks after it was taken from 240,000 miles away. Minor soiling to cover, slight tear at spine of presentation folder, the photograph bears a few negligible creases, else very good condition.
