Description:

DOUBLE-HANDED LONGSWORD WITH BUILT-IN WHEEL-LOCK PISTOL (MUSEUM COPY)
Fine antique museum replica of a large European double-handed longsword, 38 1/2" blade, 49" overall, of all-steel construction, with a double-edged blade with four rosette-shaped perforations along the central rib. The hilt features an enormous crossguard consisting of two "clamshell"-style plates with a perforated floral motifs and gorgon masks at center, and large "S"-shaped quillions, with braided ends and an engraved floral design. Most interestingly, the ricasso of the sword is fitted with an elaborate wheel-lock action, with the barrel formed by the grip itself and with the muzzle at the pommel, allowing the user to fire a ball from the opposite side of the weapon as the blade. The grip is further engraved with various star and floral patterns. Two small metal museum accession tags are attached to one blade perforation. The sword shows some oxidation overall, with the grip and crossguard slightly loose from the blade, else very good.
