Description:

'DER STURMER' AND THE 'BLOOD LIBEL' (2)
Two important issues of Julius Streicher's hateful rag, 'Der Sturmer', the first 20pp. sm. folio, Nuremberg, May, 1934 and and with a bold, red headline: 'Jewish murder plot against the non-Jewish humanity' Nearly the entire issue is devoted to the long-touted 'blood libel' used to persecute Jews. The text opens: '...The Jews are suspected of murder. They are accused of luring non-Jewish children and non-Jewish adults to themselves, slaughtering them, and draining their blood. They are accused of infusing this blood into matzo (unleavened bread) and using it to perform other religious magic tricks. They are accused of terribly tormenting and torturing their victims, especially children. And during this torture, they are accused of uttering threats, curses, and maledictions against the non-Jews. This systematic murder has a special name: ritual murder...' The paper is filled with images and 'proof' of this scandalous claim. The second paper, dated Mar. 13, 1941, is headed: 'The Jewish Question Who invented them? / A Jewish confession'. Within, in addition to the usual awful content there appears a full page of unflattering photographs of Jews emblazoned with: 'When Jews laugh'. Beneath the caption explains that 'Jews are born criminals...Their faces merely twist into a devilish grin...' As always, both front pages bear the slogan at bottom: 'The Jews are our misfortune!'.
