CONFEDERATE SOLDIER PLEADS FOR REINFORCEMENTS
Fine content A.L.S. of Pvt. Noah Deaton of the 26th North Carolina, 4pp., 8vo., Moorehead City, North Carolina, Sept. 11, 1861, apprising Sarah McDonald of the 26th's situation and willingness to fight. In part: "...If there is any more strong and brave boys there send them quickly to help keep off the invaders of our soil...The 26th Regiment has been here about a week and yesterday the seventh regt. of state troops came to reinforce this place. There is about 100 flying artillery in this place and between 1700 & 2000 men in all. There is about 800 at the fort. There is about 60 cannon mounted on the fort...I cannot tell what moment we may be attacked. We are ready at any moment for them to give them as warm a reception as we can. I think that we can give as much shell and shot as they will want...". Moderate toning and folds, with slight bleeding of ink along left vertical fold, very good.
