A fine lot of six items signed by Confederate politicians representing the state of Arkansas, includes: HENRY M. RECTOR (1816-1899) Sixth governor of Arkansas from 1860-1862. Partly-printed D.S. ‘H M Rector', 2pp legal folio, Little Rock, May 21, 1861, a land grant transferring two hundred acres of swampland in Union county to a David R. Coulter. Rector signs boldly at the conclusion in black ink, with Secretary of State JOHN I. STIRMAN countersigning. Shows original folds, with minute splits thereto at the junctures, else fine. WITH: HARRIS FLANAGIN (1817-1874) Seventh governor of Arkansas from 1862 to 1864, forced to flee Little Rock and reestablish his capital in exile at Washington. Signature ‘H Flanagin' in black ink on a 3 x 1.25 in. card, adding his title and length of term. Toned, with mounting remnants to the verso, else very good. WITH: CHARLES B. MITCHEL (1815-1864) U.S. Senator for Arkansas prior to succession, and then a Confederate Senator until his death in office. Signature ‘Chas. B. Mitchel' with sentiment in black ink on a 2.5 x 0.75 in. slip of paper cut from the conclusion of a letter. Mounted, toned, else very good. WITH: AUGUSTUS H. GARLAND (1832-1899) Arkansas delegate to the provisional and first Confederate Congresses, elected Senator in 1864. Signature ‘A H Garland' in black ink on a 3.75 x 2.5 in. card, adding his position. Tone, with mounting traces to the verso, else very good. WITH: FELIX I. BATSON (1819-1871) Delegate to the Arkansas secession convention and representative to the first and second Confederate Congresses. Signature ‘F. I. Batson' with sentiment in black ink on a 2.75 x 1.25 in. slip of paper cut from a letter. Mounted, toned, else very good. WITH: ROBERT W. JOHNSON (1814-1879) Arkansas delegate to the provisional Confederate Congress, and a Senator for the remainder of the war. Signature ‘Robt Ward Johnson' in black ink on a 3.5 x 2 in. card, adding his position and state, dating the signature ‘May 6, 1861' at Mobile. Toned, with mounting traces to the verso, else fine.
