Description:

CIVIL WAR DIARY OF PVT. STEPHEN W. SISSON, 10TH N.Y. HEAVY ARTILLERY
The 1863 diary of Pvt. Stephen W. Sisson, Co. A, 5th Battalion, 10th N.Y. Heavy Artillery, approx. 360pp. 32mo. with one day's entry per page (December torn out), leather covers, and signed on the first page. Being attached to a heavy artillery regiment, Sisson nor his regiment saw little combat in 1863: for the entire year they were relegated to the defense of Washington. Thus, Sisson's brief diary entries are rather mundane but do show the life of a simple soldier in camp, drilling, on guard duty, on sick list, sneaking out to visit friends at other forts, etc. Nevertheless a good war-date diary in very good condition from a regiment that would later serve before Petersburg.
