CHARLES GERHARDT
(1816-1856) French chemist best known as the creator of aspirin. A.L.S. 1p. 4to., Paris, Sept. 1, 1855, to William Gourlie, Esq., Secretary of the British Association of the Advancements of Science in Glasgow. In French in part: "…The British Association has done me the honor of inviting me to appear in Glasgow to take part in its meeting there. Will you kindly extend my very sincere thanks to the Lord Provost and to the other members of the committee for this high mark of distinction, and tell them how sorry I am not to be able to participate…I am to change residence from Paris to Strasbourg…". William Gourlie was a Scottish merchant and botanist known for his collection of shells and fossils. Light wear to bottom right corner, otherwise very good condition.

Shipment is sent USPS priority, USPS International Express (for most overseas) or UPS Ground at the auctioneer's option, signature required, unless other arrangements are made.
