Description:

CHARLES FRANCIS JENKINS
(1867-1934) American inventor of the electromechanical television and the first to send images by radio wave. T.L.S. 1p. 4to., Washington, Sept. 6, 1927, on his laboratory's letterhead to photographer W. N. Jennings, in part: "...Some years ago you gave me a post card photograph which you made from a balloon, the subject of the photograph was a motorboat on the river. This photograph showed a bow-wave on the surface which broadened out on each side to the shores, but the peculiarity of the picture was that there was another underwater bow-wave which projected itself forward...Can I get a photographic copy from this negative...?". Jennings pens a note at bottom stating that ripple effects only apply to radio waves. Light toning to margins, very good.
