CAROL II
(1893-1953) King of Romania from 1930-1940, he fought for his country's political integrity during World War II and made significant economic gains. Abdigated in 1940 in favor of his son, Michael, and exiled to Mexico. T.L.S. on official black-bordered mourning letterhead, 2pp. lg. 4to., Peles Castle, Aug. 31, 1938, in Romanian to Oscar Benavides, President of Peru, announcing the death of his mother, Queen Marie, on July 18, 1938. Marie (b. 1875) was granddaughter of Queen Victoria and the daughter of Prince Albert, Duke of Edinburgh and Maria Alexandrovna. Light foxing, mounted, very good.

Shipment is sent USPS priority, USPS International Express (for most overseas) or UPS Ground at the auctioneer's option, signature required, unless other arrangements are made. Handling, shipping and insurance charges will be added to the invoice in one entry.
