Description:

CARL EICKHORN UNIQUE MASTERPIECE DAMASCUS STEEL SWORD BY G. FINK
A unique sword from the Carl Eickhorn showroom floor by master swordsmith G. Fink at the ‘Fachschule der Solinger Stahlwaren-Industrie'. The school was founded in 1904 to educate students in designing and manufacturing swords in Solingen. Fink was an educator at the school. The sword, 35 in. blade, 39.75 in. overall, has an intricately designed grip depicting Germania, the female personification of Germany, wearing a Prussian eagle robe holding a sword in her left hand, while her right hand is resting on the intricately detailed hand-guard, which is designed to emulate an oak wreath. At the feet of Germania sits a maned lion guarding cannons and cannonballs, which rests on the cross-guard, which in turn designed as an eagle holding a ‘Reichsapfel' in its talons. The blade, in the ‘flamberge' design, is made of 'maiden-hair' Damascus steel with a raised Eickhorn logo on the front, viewable when the sword is displayed. The blade is also inset with large gold lettering: 'Original Eickhorn Blanke Waffen' as a sample of personalization available to a potential buyer. The reverse of the blade includes a personalized makers mark in gold gothic lettering and squared off also in a gold Germanic style, reading ‘Designed and manufactured by G. Fink'. This sword was sold without a scabbard; here it is presented in a fitted, lined case. Fine.
