BULLET RECOVERED FROM COL. ISAAC J. WISTAR AT ANTIETAM
(ISAAC J. WISTAR) (1827-1905) Union brigadier general who fought at Balls Bluff, Fair Oaks, and Antietam where he was wounded. A great Antietam relic, being an Enfield minie ball extracted from the left arm of Col. Wistar after being shot and while at an aid station on the battlefield. Wistar gave the bullet to his wife in Keedysville, Md., according to a label affixed to a piece of ribbon from the GAR Memorial Hall at Hagerstown, Md., whence the relic originated. The bullet is affixed on velvet to the bottom of a simple tin box, fine condition. Originally offered in The Manual of Arms catalog No. 31, 2009, selling items from the GAR Hall, lot 54. With a copy of the catalog listing, very good to fine.
