Description:

BRITISH STEEL-HILTED DRESS SABER
Fine British-made ceremonial or dress saber, 34" blade, 41 1/4" overall, with a slightly curved single-edged blade and a bright steel hand guard and pommel. The obverse ricasso is marked with the "broad arrow" seen on most British military equipment, as well as "WSC" (likely the maker''s mark of the Wilkinson Company), a crown over "Z7" over "E", and an "X" symbol. The reverse ricasso is marked "6" and "47" on either side of the same crown marks as featured on the opposite side, above the serial number "B100". The handguard is lavishly decorated with a perforated floral motif, with a crown at center just forward of the base of the blade. The grip is wood covered with fish skin and wrapped with braided brass wire. The sword is housed in a bright steels scabbard, marked with the serial number "B100" at the throat, along with the initials "EFD", the numeral "01" and the "broad arrow". The scabbard bears slight surface oxidation and active rust, and the combined pommel and backstrap is slightly separated from the grip, else very good.
