Description:

Large and extensive group of documents, letters and other correspondence, consisting of hundreds of pages of genealogical research, financial documents, legal and estate paperwork related to the Bouvier family, primarily JOHN VERNOU "BLACK JACK" BOUVIER III (1891-1957), Wall Street stockbroker and father of First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, as well as his great-uncle, financier MICHEL CHARLES BOUVIER. The majority of the archive appears to consist of documents related to the disbursal of funds in accordance with the will and testament of M.C. Bouvier, thank-you letters in return for said disbursals, documents related to the purchase and sale of land owned by "Black Jack" Bouvier, mimeograph genealogical charts tracing the lineage of the Bouvier and Vernou families, and much else. The archive was compiled by historian JOHN H. DAVIS (1929-2012), first cousin of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and nephew of "Black Jack" Bouvier, in preparation for his 1969 book, "The Bouviers: Portrait of an American Family". It therefore also contains numerous letters and hand-written notes related to his research for the book, his negotiations with editors and publishers, his media appearances, and other interesting tangents including notes on his research into Mafia involvement in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. The archive is simply too extensive to thoroughly parse here, and is certainly worthy of further research.
