BOOKER T. WASHINGTON
(1856-1915) Black American educator born a slave, established and headed Tuskegee Institute to provide practical training to blacks. T.L.S. as head of the Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Institute, 1p., 4to., on official letterhead, Tuskegee, Sept. 16, 1904, a reply to an associate in New York. In part: "...I have been very busy with many matters during the past two days, and have been unable to give my correspondence the attention it deserves..." . The letter is encased in a beautiful frame, matted against a red cloth background, with a b/w print of Washington in a seated pose to the left and an elegant biographic plate on the right. Minor folds, else fine.
