CLARA BARTON(1821-1912) American nurse who tended the wounded in the Civil War and later founded the American Red Cross. Fine content A.L.S. 6pp. 8vo., Glen Echo, Mar. 25, 1902 to Miss Kensel, Secretary of the National First Aid Association. In part: "...It is well to get one thing settled and right, it always makes one less to go wrong...The people of Washington were naturally a little surprised , who thought I was on a Ôretired' rest...Garfield & Butler...said they were busy with the Ônew plan' and that they would succeed - that they had no selfish thoughts for themselves - only for the work, and the good it would accomplish. She could not describe how great and far reaching the First Aid work would be. She said every one in it were the same and that there was perfect harmony both of purpose and action...I have a heaped table and need oh so much...". Very good. Tiny paper loss in blank upper corners, else very good. $400-500
