[ Autographs ] CHESTER W. NIMITZ (1885 - 1966) American admiral, Commander in Chief of the U.S. Pacific Fleet during World War II and largely responsible for the successful "island-hopping" campaign against the Japanese. D.S., 1p. legal folio, a souvenir copy of the Japanese Instrument of Surrender signed at Tokyo Bay, Sept. 2, 1945, signed and inscribed at the top "Best wishes to William Wrey Fraser ofNorth Cape Admiral of the Fleet 15/3/65 C.W. Nimitz Fleet Admiral U.S.Navy". Admiral Fraser of North Cape spent much of the war escorting convoys to the Soviet port of Archangel and was credited with sinking the German ship Scharnhorst at North Cape. Very light uneven toning, otherwise fine condition.
