[ Autograph ] James A. Garfield An excellent autograph book containing the signatures of Garfield as President-elect, his mother,his entire family, and many friends, all gathered in this book owned by Garfield's daughter, Mary "Mollie" Garfield, thirteen years old atthe time the signatures were collected. The young lady was certainly proud her father had been elected President, and just a little over a month after the voting, on Garfield's last Christmas, she went to work on her album. The album is of about sixty pages, measuring 8in x5in and covered in a burgundy felt. Included are James A. Garfield and Lucretia Rudolph Garfield (as "J. A. Garfield" and she signing infull, Mentor, Dec. 25, 1880 , his mother Eliza Garfield who adds "Aged 79 My dear Grand Daughter live a true & virtuous life", son Harry A. Garfield, son Abram Garfield, son James R. Garfield who adds "Be fit for more than the thing you are now doing", son Irvin Mcdowell Garfield (signing three times). Also signing are Mollie's many friends and other relatives including Robert Todd Lincoln and several aunts, etc. A fine intimate piece of presidential memorabiliaof a type rarely available on the market. Two or three pages disbound hinges weak, otherwise very good.
