Description:

ASIAN KNIVES
Good lot of four Middle Eastern or Asian knives, includes: Japanese-style chopping knife, 6 1/2" square blade, 13 3/4" overall, with the blade secured in a large slot in the curved wood handle by a steel ferrule. The blade is beveled on one side only, and bears incised Japanese characters on one face, with three shell designs on the other. The knife is housed in a leather-covered wood scabbard with a belt loop, marked with a patent number on the reverse. Very good. WITH: Middle Eastern Janbiya-style dagger, 8" curved blade, 12 3/4" overall, with the blade crudely incised with geometric and floral designs, and secured within a slot in the carved wood handle by two iron pins. The dagger is housed in a hand-stitched leather-covered wood scabbard. Some chipping to the handles and expected age wear and soiling, else very good WITH: Single-edged filet or skinning knife, possibly Chinese or Mongolian in origin, 3 3/4"blade, 7 1/2" overall, with a silver figurative pommel in the shape of a horse''s head, a hard blue leather grip bearing an incised image of a dog, separated from the pommel and the upper bolster by spacers of bone, brown glass and silver. A delicate geometric pattern is incised on the bolster, and the blade bears an indistinct etched motto within a deep fuller. The knife is housed in a hand-cut and stitched brown leather sheath, with the incised initials "A.S." The bolster bears some green tarnish, else very good. WITH: Single-edged curved small sword or dagger of unknown origin, 11" blade, 17 1/2" overall, with a cylindrical tapering wire-wrapped grip with brass ferrules at both ends. The blade is hand-forged and crudely sharpened, with simple incised wave patterns on both sides. Housed in a two-piece scabbard of red lacquered wood, held together by five brass bands. Very good.
