ARTHUR WELLESLEY WELLINGTON
(1769 - 1852) British general and statesman, called the "Iron Duke", he crushed French forces under Napoleon at the battle of Waterloo. A.L.S. 1p. 8vo., [n.p., "Thursday morning", but postmarked Mar. 2, 1815] to the musician, Sir George Smart (1776 - 1867). Only a week after Napoleon escaped from Elba, Wellington arranges a social call: "My dear Sir George If you are disengaged on Sunday - come and spend your day here. The duke dines here... no doubt assist you in Getting home... ". With integral address leaf addressed in Wellington's hand detached. Light toning, usual folds, some losses and tears to address leaf, else very good condition.

Shipment is sent USPS priority, USPS International Express (for most overseas) or UPS Ground at the auctioneer's option, signature required, unless other arrangements are made. Handling, shipping and insurance charges will be added to the invoice in one entry. Buyer's should be aware that large, framed, fragile or odd shaped items can incur substantial shipping and packing charges. Customer's who supply their own courier account number will still be charged a handling fee.
