Description:

ARCHIBALD GEIKE
(1835-1924) Scottish geologist. Fine A.L.S. 3pp. 8vo., London, July 27, 1900, to a Mr. Bell, mostly likely Alexander Graham Bell, for whom he worked as geologist. In part: "…...Will you come and dine with me at the Royal Society Club dinner…You will meet some of the Royal Soc. Fellows and you may like to see them in friendly chat. If you can do this will you come for me at the Athenaeum Club, Pall Mall…If you and Miss Bell are free on Sunday afternoon, we shall be pleased if you could come to us here…I hope to be at the meeting of the Royal Society on Thursday…". In 1888, Alexander Graham Bell became one of the founding members of the National Geographic Society, so it stands to reason that the "famed" Bell is Geike's correspondent. Very good condition.
