Description: ANDREW JOHNSON'S FOOTPRINT SKETCHES
(1808-1875) Seventeenth President of the United States who came to office following the death of Abraham Lincoln. A squabble with Stanton along with his Reconstruction policies led to an impeachment by Congress. Fine content D.S. "Andrew Johnson" twice as President, on an oblong folio sheet, Washington, Dec. 12, 1865, a tracing of Johnson's footprints, most likely done by the sitting president himself. Offered together with a similar sized sheet bearing similar foot tracings on both recto and verso, one is signed "Major Andrew K. Long Executive Mansion Washington Dec 12, 1865" and the reverse: "R. Morrow Executive Mansion Major & A.A.G. Dec. 14, 1865" who required "Double Soles". The sketches were purchased a decade ago with the contents of a Portsmouth, Ohio garage owned by Robert Graf the son of Howard Graf who ran the Selby Shoe factory. These footprints were originally in a presentation folder, entitled "Measure Book, Presented by the Honorable Abraham Lincoln, President of the United States, with his autograph, to P Kahler, Dec. 13, 1864." Dr. Kahler apparently continued the practice of obtaining signed Presidential footprint sketches. It is not known where the Abraham Lincoln footprint page is located. A unique White House Autograph. Marginal chips and light soiling, else very good condition.
