Description:
by York, awarded to him either during or immediately after World War I. The bronze medal measures 1 1/2" x 1" with a 1" silver cloth hanger with pin back on verso. The medal depicts three French railroad cars, one bearing a horse with a soldier and marked (in French): "40 Men 8 Horses", with a second armed French soldier in the foreground. The medal was donated by York to a "Navy Relief Fund Auction" ca. 1940, and a copy of his signed card mentioning the "brass" is included.
