Description:

ALPHONSE CAPONE
(1899 - 1947) American gangster and Chicago mob giant, he orchestrated the St. Valentine's Day Massacre, wiping-out Bugs Moran's gang and ruled over the nation's largest criminal enterprise. Capone was eventually nabbed on tax evasion charges and passed a comfortable eight years in prison. We are very pleased to offer his extremely rare signature "Al Capone" in black ink on the face of a 1928 $5.00 bill just to the left of Lincoln's portrait. Ironically, the bill was drawn on the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. Found housed in photo corners on the front pastedown of Fred D. Pasley's 1930 biography, Al Capone the Biography of a Self-Made Man (Garden City, N.Y.: Garden City Publishing Company, 1930). The accompanying volume is in overall very good condition with a cracked spine, but the signed bill is in overall fine condition with only a few vertical folds, none of which affect Capone's signature.
