Description:

ALFRED KELLER
(1882 - 1974) German Luftwaffe general, commanded a bomber wing in World War I, and IV. Fliegerkorps during the campaign in Poland. Keller later commanded Luftflotte 1 in the Battle of France, battle of Britain, in the Balkans, and Barbarossa until 1943. Lot of two T.L.S.s on his letterhead to an American history professor, both written at Grunewald. The first, 1p. 4to., May 2, 1968, advises that a certain photographer still retains the negative of Keller in uniform and would be the logical source for a print. The second letter, fine content, 2pp. 4to., Mar. 5, 1970, has Keller sending his photo and adds: "...I recommend...that you examine those who caused the start of the war. I read the books of...Taylor and Glaeser...it is wrong to give Germany the sole fault for the war...Taylor writes that in 1939 the war was far from being planned. It was a pitfall...caused by diplomats on both sides...the former Allies and the former Axis powers are both at fault, the difference is very small...the German people have no reason to feel at fault...and to pay a special price...Hitler tried to regulate the German Polish question...his moderate request...[was] a solution to the minority question...the Hitler regime [was] provoked...Hitler indeed was seriously concerned with a peaceful resolution with Poland...bloody attacks against the Germans...'Bloody Sunday' in Bromberg...a forrester was forcibly crucified on a farm door...the German name was blackened by the SS..." File holes, else very good.
