Description:

(1889-1945) Fuhrer of Germany and Nazi Party leader, Hitler's bloody rise to power, his military seizure of most of Europe and North Africa and his genocidal racial policies culminated in suicide in his Berlin bunker as Russian troops approached. MASS MURDERER PHILIP BOUHLER IS APPOINTED THE FIRST CHIEF OF THE CHANCELLERY OF THE FUHRER Important D.S., 1p. large 4to., Berlin, Nov. 17, 1934, a decree in which Hitler gives an important position to the man who would one day run the state-mandated 'euthanasia' program. In part: '...The Chancellery of the Fuhrer of the NSDAP with its headquarters in Berlin, is established to deal with all party affairs which are directed to my attention by the party and its divisions...as Chief of the Chancellery of the Fuhrer of the NSDAP, I appoint Reichsleiter Philipp Bouhler...He is immediately subordinate to me and responsible to me only...the particulars related to the implementation of this decree will be enacted by the chief of the Chancellery of the Fuhrer of the NSDAP....' Boldly signed in pencil at conclusion, as Hitler sometimes did prior to the completion of an official, calligraphied document, thus leading us to assume this is a draft copy of the final appointment. File holes at left, folds, and some non-intrusive tears and thinning of paper at top. Generally very good. PHILIPP BOUHLER (1889-1945) was the first man to occupy this post, which was created on the date this document was signed. At the Chancellery, secret decrees might be prepared, or internal business managed, before being brought before Hitler, and his office was responsible for all correspondence for Hitler, including his private and internal communications. By order of Hitler, Bouhler also helped develop and supervised the implementation of the Nazis' early euthanasia program, Aktion T4, in which mentally ill and physically disabled people were killed. Ironically, both Hitler and Bouhler, as well as their spouses, would commit suicide at war's end, and the Chancellery would be reduced to rubble by the effects of Allied bombing and Russian artillery.
